Howzat! Primary schools excel in cricket competition
03 July 2008
Children from 21 primary schools across Amber Valley took part in the recent annual Year 5 and 6 Kwik Cricket competition. The competition was organised by Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Development team with help and support from five local cricket clubs.
Seven schools - Curzon CE Primary, Coppice Primary, Somerlea Park Junior School, Richardson Endowed Primary School, Christ the King RC Primary School, Street Lane Primary School and Swanwick Primary School - secured a place in the finals, which took place at Denby Cricket Club last month. In a close final game Coppice Primary beat Curzon CE by five runs to lift the trophy.
Coppice then went on to represent Amber Valley in the county final, where they were runners-up. They will now represent the Borough in the regional finals later this month.
Sarah Bingham, Club, Coach & Volunteer Development Officer said, “All the teams that participated should be very proud of their performances. The standard was extremely high and some of the games were only won by a few runs. I would like to thank all the cricket clubs that supported the competition and who provided scorers and umpires. Special congratulations to Coppice Primary School, and the very best of luck to the team taking part in the regional final.”
