Pet shops require a licence to operate. The Councils carries out a series of check to ensure basic standards of animal welfare and hygiene are in place prior to the issue of a pet shop licence.
Once a licence has been granted the pet shop is subject to periodic inspections and an annual review to ensure that standards are being maintained.
