Description of service

The pollution section deal with issues including:

  • National air quality surveys and strategies
  • Authorising and inspecting certain industrial processes under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Pollution Prevention Control Act 1999
  • Providing guidance to people improving contaminated land sites
  • Investigation of potentially contaminated land sites
  • Controlling dark smoke from trade waste fires
  • Problems with drainage from buildings
  • Complaints about noise
  • Complaints about other nuisances such as smell, smoke or fumes
  • Providing advice on radon gas
  • Complaints about rubbish in relation to vermin problems
  • The environmental impact of planning proposals
  • Minimising and controlling noise and nuisance from Licensed premises.
