The Derby Housing Market Area (HMA) comprises the three local planning authority areas of Derby City Council, Amber Valley Borough Council and South Derbyshire District Council.
The three authorities together with Derbyshire County Council and other key stakeholders and private sector representatives have formed a partnership which will assess the potential of land and buildings in the HMA to provide for the future housing needs of the area.This is called a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) and it will be used to inform the development of new planning policies for the area on housing in each local planning authority’s Local Development Framework. It will also identify the supply of deliverable and developable sites for inclusion in each authority’s five year and fifteen year housing supply.
An initial SHLAA was carried out in early 2007 for the principal urban area of Derby and including potential sustainable urban extensions into South Derbyshire and Amber Valley.
However, in July 2007 the Government produced a practice guidance note for local planning authorities and consultants in carrying out SHLAAs. This can be viewed on the Communities and Local Government website at www.communities.gov.uk.
A call for sites has now been completed and the three authorities are now in the process of analysing the results of this exercise.
