Planning appeals

Description of service

If you feel unhappy about a planning decision you can appeal to the First Secretary of State at The Planning Inspectorate, 3/07 Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN.

You can choose one of three methods, namely an exchange of correspondence, an informal hearing or a public inquiry. A period of six months (or 8 weeks for advertisement applications) is given for you to appeal against the Council's decision. If your application has not been determined after eight weeks you also have a right of appeal.

The Planning Inspectorate is phasing in the Planning Casework Service - their online appeals system - it will be extended to cover planning appeals, listed building consent appeals and conservation area consent appeals in England. This means that these appeals can now be submitted online through the planning portal.

The extension of the service to cover these appeals also means that you can:

  • Submit pre-prepared documents (eg statements) online or by email
  • Search for cases, and from the Search Results:
  • View the location of one or more caces on a map
  • View progress
  • View the decision (when made)

ONLY APPLICANTS CAN APPEAL AGAINST A DECISION - OBJECTORS CANNOT
