Kennels

Description of service

The Council regulates kennels and catteries within the borough. Before operating a boarding kennel or cattery owners need to gain a licence from the Council.

Prior to granting the licence the Council will carry out a series of checks to ensure accommodation is suitable. Once a licence as been issued the owner is subject to periodic inspections and an annual review to ensure that standards are being maintained.

A fee is applicable to the licences, period of which begins on 1st January and expires on the 31st December of the year to which the licence relates. Licences must be renewed before that date if the premises are to continue as a dog breeding establishment.
