As a Local Authority, Amber Valley Borough Council has a duty to provide a dog warden service to deal with the seizure of stray dogs and the enforcement of dog fouling bye-laws. The 2 main laws enforced by Amber Valley Borough Council are:
- The Dogs Fouling of Land Act 1996 which makes it an offence to allow your dog to defecate and not clean it up. Offenders could be fined up to £1000.
- The Environmental Protection Act 1990 which makes it an offence to allow a dog to roam the streets and clearly states that dogs must be wearing a collar and disc stating the owners name and address. Offenders could be fined up to £5000.
However the service offered by our Council is much more diverse and offers various other services aimed at promoting responsible dog ownership which can be found by using the links in Further Details.
