Dog Spay Neuter Scheme

Each year thousands of dogs are allowed to roam the streets, die in road accidents or are put dowh, because they were the result of unplanned pregnancies and were not wanted.

To try and reduce the number of unwanted pets, Amber Valley Borough Council in conjunction with local veterinary practices offer financial assistance for the neutering or spaying of dogs.

Your contribution to the cost of the scheme would be as follows:

  • Neuter Dog £40.00 + VAT (£47.00)
  • Spay Bitch £55.00 + VAT (£64.63)

To qualify for this low cost scheme you must be a resident of Amber Valley and in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Pension Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Income based Job Seekers Allowance

Dogs must be 12 weeks old before being spayed or neutered.

To apply for the scheme, complete an application form and take it together with proof of benefit, a means of identification and the relevant payment to an Amber Valley Town Centre Office at Alfreton, Belper, Heanor or Ripley.

You will be issued with a voucher and you can then book your dog in for treatment at one of the participating veterinary surgeries. You should hand over your voucher to the vet following treatment.

An application form and list of participating vets can be downloaded using the related document link.
