If you have lost your dog you should:
- Ring the Dog Control helpline on 01773 841335. The helpline is open from 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday. Lines open at 10 on a Wednesday due to staff training and development. Outside these hours you will be transferred to a Duty Officer who will help you with your enquiry.
During normal working hours, on ringing the Dog Control helpline, you will speak to a member of staff who will ask you for the following information:
- Your name and address.
- Contact telephone number
- Description of your dog
- If it is wearing identification or is identichipped.
- Where and when you lost your dog.
The Council's Found Dog register will be checked to see if your dog as been picked up by a Dog Control Officer.
If we find your dog we will contact you as soon as possible to arrange for an officer to return it to you.
If your dog is wearing a collar and disc or is identichipped, it will be returned directly to you free of charge. (This applies only if you are contactable and have not had previous free returns)
If your dog has been kennelled you will be required to pay detention and kennelling charges on its return.
The Authority has a legal obligation to kennel a dog for 7 days and it will then be eligible for rehoming.
Amber Valley Borough Council enforce the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which makes it an offence for a dog to freely roam the streets and clearly states that dogs must be wearing a collar and disc stating the owners name and address. A fine of up to £5000 can be incurred.
If you find your dog, please let us know as soon as possible so that it can be removed from our records.
