Composting

Description of service

The most sustainable method of disposing of green garden waste is to home compost it. The Council promotes the sale of home compost bins at £17 for 220 litres, £20 for 330 litres and £40 for a 250 litre square bin. Residents can also purchase kitchen caddies for £4 (limited one per household). Prices include home delivery, please allow 28 days from receipt of order for your bins to be delivered. This offer throughout Derbyshire has been made possible through WRAP, an independent Government funded organisation. For full details on composters and to order online please use the recyclenow link.

Instead of putting grass cuttings in your green wheeled bin you could leave them on the lawn. As the cuttings decompose, they release up to 30% of the lawn’s required nutrients. It is only necessary to remove the cuttings from the lawn at the beginning and end of the growing season when decomposition is slow.
