Garden Waste Collection

Description of service

Garden Waste Collections just £39 a year !

Autumn is almost here this means that you will soon have leaves to compost again and your garden to tidy up ready for the Spring.

If you produce a lot of garden waste and you need it taking away then Amber Valley Borough Council is here to help you.

You can join over 3,350 customers who have already signed up to the Garden Waste Scheme and receive a fortnightly collection of garden waste for £39 per year or just 78 pence per week! If you don't think that you will fill a garden waste bin but you still want to join the scheme then you can club together and share a bin with your neighbour.

Background to the Scheme

The Garden Waste Scheme was introduced in 2008 as a direct response to resident's requests for a service. The scheme is a voluntary subscription scheme that covers the whole Borough of Amber Valley. Offering this scheme on a subscription basis is the fairest way of providing the service for those residents who need it, without increasing the Council Tax burden for all.

In the first year of the scheme we collected over 1000 tonnes of garden waste ! We would like to thank all of the residents that have supported the scheme so far. There is a graph available for you to download as a PDF to show you how much waste we collected throughout the year.

Taking Part in the Scheme

Once you join the garden waste scheme we will inform you of your collection day and deliver your 240L garden bin (same size as your wheelie bin). The garden bin will have to be placed out at your normal collection point by 6.30am on your day of collection (this will not apply if reciving an assisted collection). Please note that your bin lid must be fully closed and no side waste will be taken. If you are currently receiving an assisted collection then this service will also apply to the green waste collection. For information on the acceptable items for the garden bin please see the Garden Waste leaflet opposite.

Unfortunately, if you are currently on a bagged collection for your household waste then you may not be able to take part in the scheme.

If you would like to take part in the scheme then please contact us by either completing the Green Waste Collection Request Form opposite, or contact us using the details below. Once we have received your details an invoice will be sent to you.

Unfortunately, there will be no concessions or refunds for this scheme. Please note that collections are suspended for the two weeks over Christmas and the New Year.
