Green Waste Collection

Description of service

Kerbside Garden Waste Collection Service Starting May 2008

Spring is here ! Your lawn needs mowing, your hedges trimming and your garden weeding. You may find that you will have too much garden waste to compost at home! We can help you.

For an annual fee of just £39, the Council is offering residents a fortnightly green waste collection service. That's only 75 pence per week! Or, even less if you club together with your neighbours and share a bin. Unfortunately, there will be no concessions or refunds for this service.

This new service is being introduced as a direct response to resident's requests. The scheme is to cover the whole of the Borough. However, it is a subscription service, you will not automatically receive a collection. Only those who sign-up to the service will be able to have their garden waste collected. Offering this service on a subscription basis is the fairest way of providing the service for those residents who need it, without increasing the Council Tax burden for all.

For information on what can and cannot be placed in the garden bin, please see the Recycle Your Garden Waste document opposite.

Collections of garden waste will begin week commencing 12 May 2008. This is slightly later than originally planned and the reason for this delay is that the bin manufacturer experienced a problem with the production process at their factory.

Once you join the garden waste scheme we will inform you of your collection day and deliver your bin. The bin will have to be placed out at your normal collection point by 6.30am on your day of collection. Please note that your bin lid will have to be shut and no side waste will be taken. If you are currently receiving an assisted collection then this service will also apply to the green waste collection.

Unfortunately, if you are currently on a bagged collection for your household waste then you may not be able to take part in the scheme.

If you would like to sign-up for the scheme then please contact us by either completing the Green Waste Collection Request Form opposite, email us at refuse@ambervalley.gov.uk. Or, call the Refuse and Recycling helpline on 01773 841326. Once we have received your details an invoice for £39 will be sent to you.

For those who require further information please ring, email, fax or write.
