General elections

Description of service

The next general election will take place in all constituencies of the United Kingdom for seats in the House of Commons on or before Thursday, 3 June 2010.

Since the last general election held on 5 May 2005, the Boundary Commission for England has carried out a review of constituencies to ensure that their size and composition are as fair as possible.

As a result of this review, for the next general election, the number of seats in the House of Commons will rise from 646 to 650, each returning a single Member of Parliament.Once the date of the general election is announced, new constituencies will come into force within the Amber Valley Borough, as follows:-

Amber Valley County Constituency – comprising the Borough Wards of Alfreton, Codnor & Waingroves, Heage & Ambergate, Heanor & Loscoe, Heanor East, Heanor West,Langley Mill & Aldercar, Ironvile & Riddings,Kilburn, Denby & Holbrook, Ripley, Ripley & Marehay, Shipley Park, Horsley & Horsley Woodhouse, Somercotes, Swanwick and Wingfield.

Part Derbyshire Dales County Constituency – comprising the Borough Wards of Alport, Crich and South West Parishes.

Part Mid-Derbyshire County Constituency – comprising the Borough Wards of Belper Central, Belper East, Belper North, Belper South and Duffield.

If you wish to stand for election as a Member of Parliament, please note that you must be 18 years of age or over on the date of your nomination.A deposit of £500 must be submitted by the close of nominations, along with completed nomination papers.
