Description of service

The Housing Section is located within the Council’s Environmental Services Department.

The Council transferred its housing stock to Amber Valley Housing Ltd (AVHL) on the 24th February 2003. However, the Council still retains its enabling role to ensure the housing needs of the Borough’s residents are met, this includes responsibility for:

  • Determination of Housing Need Housing Policies and Strategies
  • Homelessness, Housing Advice and the Housing Register, although these services are managed by AVHL under an agency agreement.
  • Supporting service providers to ensure they have enough resources to help meet housing needs

In addition, the Housing Section is responsible for Private Sector Housing and the Home Energy Advice Service. This involves the provision of advice, information and enforcement on most private sector housing standard issues including landlord and tenant issues, houses in multiple occupation, caravan sites, housing grants and home energy efficiency advice.
