The Council has to give advice and assistance to people who are facing homelessness. Amber Valley Housing Limited (AVHL) has a contract with the Council to carry out this service.
If a household satisfy the criteria below, the Council will provide temporary accommodation until secure accommodation becomes available. Under the Housing Act 1996 (amended by the Homelessness Act 2002) enquiries are made to decide whether applicants are:
- eligible to apply for assistance
- actually homeless, or threatened with homelessness within 28 days
- in ‘priority need’
- homeless or threatened with homelessness intentionally
- have a local connection to Amber Valley
Everyone will be given help and advice even if they do not meet all of these.
Housing advice is available, covering:
- applying for housing association accommodation
- choice based lettings information
- renting a home privately
- shared ownership and Homebuy
- signposting to other services such as housing benefit
- help and advice to retain your current accommodation
Appointments can be made Monday to Friday 9am until 4.30pm, (Wednesday 10am until 4.30pm)
Telephone calls will also be answered from 8.30am until 5pm.
If you are homeless due to an emergency situation outside of office hours or at the weekend, please telephone Call Derbyshire for advice and assistance on 0845 6058058 or 01629 532600.
