Amber Valley Borough Council is committed to seeking the views of local people and to ensuring that strategic priorities reflect the needs and wants of local communities.

Consultation and community engagement are at the heart of Local Government's role in championing the needs of its communities and democratic renewal. It is important that stakeholders are involved in influencing the policy direction of the Council as well as the services it provides.

What is Consultation?

Consultation is the process of informed communication between the Council and stakeholders prior to the Council making a policy decision or determining changes to service delivery.

Why Consult?

Effective consultation enables the Council to:
- Better understand the needs of local people
- Make more efficient use of public resources
- Practice evidence-based decision making, and
- Over time, can be used to measure the performance of the Council in delivering high quality services and improving life for local people.
