Small business grant fund

With Coronavirus (COVID-19) now affecting many areas of our services to the residents and businesses of Amber Valley, we are keen to keep you right up-to-date with the changes we are being forced to make. Read more about your council services.

You should apply for this grant if you run a small business within Amber Valley.

You can apply for support under a government funded grant scheme if your small business meets one of the following criteria:

  1. Small Business Grant Funding: £10,000 grant to properties with a rateable value of up to £15,000 that are in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief or Rural Rate Relief
  2. Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Funding: £10,000 grant to eligible properties with a rateable value up to £15,000, or a £25,000 grant to eligible properties that have a rateable value of over £15,000 and less than £51,000

Payment will be made directly into the relevant bank account of the business rates bill payer, you will be asked for this information when completing the request form. Please ensure you provide as much information as possible so we can process your claim efficiently. 

We are working hard to process applications as soon as possible, however the high volume of applications received may affect processing time.

Upon receipt of a completed online grant form we aim to verify eligibility and process payment (where applicable) as soon as we can. Please do not contact the council during this time as we cannot give progress updates on individual cases.

Introduction to your claim

The grant scheme which Amber Valley Borough Council is administering has been devised by The Department for Business Energy & Industrial Strategy (Central Government Department). This is their scheme and as such Amber Valley Borough Council has no discretion to amend this. Please see the frequently asked questions at to see if you would eligible before to start your request.

Before you start to your grant request, you will need your most recent rate demand (rates bill) in most cases this will have an issued date of 09 March 2020 you must also read and confirm that you will not exceed the state aid rules (below) before you can continue with the application.

Important - all applications for this grant will be verified using the Governments Spotlight checking tool which will access Companies House Records, Charity Commission Records and HMRC to prevent fraud, error or crime.
