Alfreton Play Area set for a bigger and brighter future

Active Alfreton residents will soon be benefitting from the re-development of Watchorn Recreation Ground Play Area, by Amber Valley Borough Council.

The play area, off Watchorn Lane, is being upgraded to increase play opportunities, in a partnership project involving Amber Valley Borough Council with financial contributions from, Severn Trent Water and Derbyshire County Council. A leading playground supplier is getting set to extend the play area, adding new and exciting equipment for a variety of age groups. The new additions - a basket swing, climbing frame, spinning bowl and trim trail equipment - will sit alongside the existing equipment.

Amber Valley Borough Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr John McCabe, said: “This is an exciting development for local residents with something for everyone to enjoy. The new equipment will encourage a longer visit to the play space and attract visitors to enjoy the surrounding open space.”

Derbyshire County Councillor and Town Councillor, Steve Marshall-Clarke, commented: “This new equipment will help to provide hours of fun and entertainment for all the family and is a fantastic and exciting development for the local community.”

The works are set for completion this summer.
