Council looks for views on election changes

Local residents are being asked for their views on whether the Amber Valley Borough Council should change the way it elects its Councillors. The Council is considering a move towards electing Councillors all at the same time, rather than a third of the Council at a time.

The current system of election by thirds has been in place since 1974, but it is estimated that a move to whole council elections could save around £235,000 over a 4 year period.

The Council is currently seeking the views of a wide range of potentially interested parties, ranging from local residents/electors and political parties, special interest and community groups to relevant statutory bodies and other identified stakeholders.

Anyone is welcome to put forward their views. These must be received by the Council by no later than Friday, 20 February 2015.Representations can be submitted, by writing to: Executive Director (Operations), Amber Valley Borough Council, Town Hall, Market Place, Ripley, Derbyshire DE5 3BT
or by email:

Consideration of the outcome of this consultation will be at a Special Meeting of the Full Council on 2 March 2015, when the Council will determine whether to move to whole Council elections.
