Council provides support at Flu Clinics

Important information and advice about staying warm this winter was offered to local people, attending Somercotes Medical Centres’ recent Flu Jab Clinics, by Amber Valley Borough Council.

The Council accepted an invitation from the Medical Centre to attend the Clinics, and talk with patients, over two weekends in October.

Portfolio Holder for Housing and Public Health, Cllr David Taylor, said: "It is really positive that the hard-working staff at the Medical Centre understand that working more closely with the Council can be beneficial to patients.”

A Council officer was on hand to offer advice and assistance about keeping warm and talk about the support that is available for residents with long-term conditions. Amber Valley Borough Council has been awarded some funding to help people with long-term conditions that need to stay warm.

Dr Kaysia Heafield from Somercotes Medical Centre, commented: "We are always looking for new ways to help our patients and recognise that if they are struggling to stay warm this can have a big impact on their health. We are keen to work more closely with the Council to help our patients access important support.”

Over 1000 patients attended the flu clinics over 2 weekends.
