Generation Games

                CST     Generation Games

Generation Games is an initiative delivered by Community Sports Trust and works with local communities to get the older generation “up and active” in their local community.

We focus on accessible, affordable, fun in sociable and friendly sessions and create a wide range of suitable sessions for older adults while signposting people to suitable activities in the area.

Generation Games has some new activities starting in Belper:

On Tuesday afternoons 1-3pm an Activity & Games session which is suitable for all abilities which includes Boccia, New Age Curling, Soft Tennis and Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Archery.

Wednesday Mornings Tai Chi 10-11.30am, Tai Chi is a health promoting exercise which combines slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and relaxation, to help reduce stress, improve balance and mobility and increase muscle strength in the legs. Evidence suggests that Tai Chi can help with conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis, and is an ideal form of exercise for the older adults.

Friday mornings 10-11am  is Nordic Walking using poles which mean the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs and the poles help propel the walker along.

All sessions have free parking and disabled access, refreshments and time for participants to socialise and make friends.

Generation Games provides opportunities for people to become volunteers by supporting or leading activities and getting involved in their local community and socialising with likeminded people.

A project officer is available to offer advice and support and help to overcome barriers for participation in activity. Anyone is invited to come along to a drop-in session for a chat and refreshments and receive a free Generation Games pedometer and learn what activities are available suitable to their personal needs. These take place on Tuesday afternoons at 1pm at the Fit Pit, East Mill, Bridgefoot, Belper.

Amber Valley has its own dedicated Project Officer, support and encouragement is available for those wishing to take part, so If you would like more information and would like to join the fun, contact Amanda Gowing 07795024877 or email
