Walk this Way!

On Friday 2nd October 2015, Ripley Leisure Centre will play host to a FREE taster session of Walking Sports.

Did you used to love playing a team sport but now struggle to get your legs to keep up with what your brain wants them to do? Have a go at the slower paced versions of some old favourites such as; Basketball, Rounders, Netball and Cricket. There will also be an opportunity to try Nordic Walking! Light refreshments and a chance for a sit down and a chat with like-minded people will also be available!

The session will be led by Amber Valley Borough Council in partnership with Amber Valley Village Games. Community Sports Activator, Beth Turner said: “The afternoon will be a fantastic opportunity for those who miss the benefits which come from playing a team sport such as making new friends. We are constantly told that we need to be more active, but for a lot of people it is far more enjoyable to achieve that as a group rather than exercising alone.

“By offering a slower paced version of traditional favourites, it is hoped that we can help people to gently increase their physical activity levels in a friendly and supportive environment.”

You don’t need to have had played any of the sports before. It will be a very informal afternoon and you can pick and choose which sports you try!

The taster session is open to all adults who wish to have a go! To ensure the afternoon runs effectively, please could you let us know if you would like to attend by contacting Beth Turner on 07584904519 beth@villagegames.org.uk or Nikki Ottowell on 01773 841428 or nikki.ottowell@ambervalley.gov.uk.
