Council to go live with new social media project

A behind-the-scenes look at Amber Valley Borough Council services, and the tasks carried out during a typical day, will feature in a new social media project called #AVBCLive.

#AVBCLive sessions will start by looking at the Council’s work in specific locations and the story of the day will be told through a series of tweets and Facebook posts.

Photos and videos will add to the descriptions of what the staff are doing, and it is hoped this will help give residents a fuller understanding of the many and varied ways the Council contributes to the day-to-day running of the Borough.

This initiative was inspired by the success of a ‘Twitterthon’ which the Council was involved in last November. #OurDay involved local councils from across the country, posting regular updates about their work over a 24 hour period. Amber Valley posted on average every 15 minutes throughout the day, and received good feedback on its tweets, from its 2,000 plus Followers.

The Twitter account - @AmberValleyBC – now has more than 2,500 followers while the Council’s Facebook page has around 800 ‘Likes’. It is hoped #AVBCLive will encourage even more residents to follow and ‘Like’.

The first #AVBCLive day will take place on 21 July when Heanor will be in the spotlight.

Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council, Cllr Kevin Buttery, said:  “#AVBCLive is a chance for residents to understand the vital work the Council carries out in our communities and to look beyond the obvious like refuse collection. Day in day out our staff provide residents with hundreds of services that are at the heart of helping our communities function, many of them things people may not even be aware of.”
