An on-going campaign by Amber Valley Borough Council to rid the area of unsightly and illegal signs for car boot sales, has resulted in two prosecutions.

Appearing before Derby Magistrates, as a result of the Council’s investigations, were, Thomas Preston of Stonebroom, and Andrew Kirkland of Codnor.

Thomas Preston pleased guilty and was fined £40.00. He also was ordered to pay a Victim Surcharge of £20.00 and Prosecution costs of £501.00.

Andrew Kirkland was handed a six month Conditional Discharge and ordered to pay a Victim Surcharge of £15.00 and Prosecution costs of £75.00.

Commenting on the cases, Amber Valley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr David Wilson, said: “We would like to remind car boot sale operators that it is an offence to display signs on council land without permission and that it is our policy to prosecute where we feel it is necessary.

“Our officers are working hard to address this problem, and that of unofficial signs in general, and so we are very pleased with the latest successful prosecutions.”
