Clean sweep with new vehicles

The streets of Amber Valley are looking that little bit cleaner following the addition of three new small sweepers to the fleet of cleaning machines patrolling the area.

Cabinet member for environment, councillor Chris Short, recently visited the Leafy Lane depot in Heanor, to be shown the new machines by drivers Nigel Bonser and Eddie Marsden.

The smallest sweeper has just begun operating in Heanor town centre and is producing dramatic results, while the other mini sweepers are working borough-wide.

All of the sweepers are fitted with the latest tracker systems so their location can be monitored at all times, which in turn enables the council to respond to calls for service by dispatching the nearest sweeper.

The sweeper crews work on a four-day-on, four-day-off shift pattern which means crews are operating between 5.30am and 5.00pm seven days a week, including bank holidays and even Christmas Day and New Year’s day.

Commented councillor Short: “Our sweeper crews do a fantastic job in keeping the borough’s streets clean and tidy and this investment provides them with the latest technology to improve the service still further.”
