The Council do not offer a service to treat for Slugs or Snails

General Information

  • Both belong to the same class.
  • Difference being snails have a shell which they retreat into when conditions are difficult.
  • Lay shiny whitish eggs.
  • Feed on plant material.
  • Both only occur indoors where there are very damp conditions.
  • Slimy trails and sticky faecal pellets can cause unpleasant contamination.

Advice to Customers

  • Control measures are very rarely necessary.
  • Slug pellets could be applied locally.
  • Spray available from garden centres or local retailers. Use spray containing metaldehyde around doors and areas of entry.
  • If in air bricks pest control operative will advise.
