Frequently asked questions

The council is offering loft insulation to all eligible properties because it successfully bid for funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to deliver energy efficiency measures to households across the borough of Amber Valley.

If you agree to the work, depending on the condition and style of your home then loft and/or cavity insulation will be fitted to your home. This should help to increase the energy efficiency of the building, reduce heating bills, increase the warmth of the home, and may even increase the value of the property.

There will be some disruption to daily life, as contractors will need to survey your home and fit the relevant energy efficiency measures. However, fitting loft and cavity insulation is a relatively quick process and if you are found eligible for a grant, work should be completed fairly quickly.

Yes, all work will be carried out according to COVID safe practices and the utmost care will be taken to ensure that there is a minimal risk to health.

Once your home has been surveyed and we have confirmed that you are eligible for a grant, then work installing energy efficiency measures on your home can begin. The work should take at most a couple of days to complete, but most jobs can be done in a day.

Improving the comfortability of your home, reducing your heating bills and making sure that homes are future-proofed is a council priority. This work will help to improve the warmth and comfort of your home, whilst also reducing your heating bills, and potentially improving the value of your house.

You could save money on your heating bills, and your home should be warmer and more comfortable following completion of the work.

Nothing will happen if you refuse to have work undertaken. You are under no obligation to agree to the works proposed.

However, funding is limited and only available for a short time. If you refuse to have work undertaken now, the council may not be able to offer a similar project in the future.

This work will help to improve the warmth and comfort of your home, as well as helping to reduce your heating bills. This project was designed with you in mind and Amber Valley Borough Council is committed to reducing heating bills and making homes more comfortable.

This work will be paid for using money secured from the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme, allocated by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

If you own or rent your home, then you may be eligible for this scheme and you should submit an expression of interest as soon as possible.

No, you do not need to apply for planning permission.

A Trustmark registered installer, Westville, will undertake the work. They will be overseen by the council and their work will be conducted to the latest PAS2035:2019 standard.

Amber Valley Borough Council is contractually required to provide ongoing due diligence, monitoring, reporting and controlling relating to all work undertaken in relation to the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme.

If you have expressed interest in the scheme, then you can expect to receive an application form from us soon. Once you receive your application form, please fill it out as soon as you can either over the phone. Or, if you would prefer to complete your application form in writing, please do so and then send a picture or scan of your application form to wdd@mea.org.uk.

If you are found eligible for energy efficiency measures you can expect to have your home surveyed by a contracted surveyor. This is so that Westville (the council’s procured contractor) can get an idea of what measures your home is suitable for.
