Green Homes Grant loft and cavity wall insulation

Would you like to make your home warmer, and more comfortable and limit the increase in heating bills?

Amber Valley Borough Council has received a grant from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to undertake works to help you with the above which will help counter the current increases in energy prices.

Does your loft have less than 200mm of insulation and/or cavity walls that have not been filled?

If you meet the following conditions, then you may qualify for a grant that could fully fund works to improve the energy efficiency of your home. The works would be installed by Trustmark registered installers and managed by our Partner, Marches Energy Agency.

You could qualify if you answer 'yes' to the following questions:

  • Do you own your own home? - If you are a tenant in a privately owned property or a landlord looking to have this work done at a rented property that you own please see below.
  • Do you have a household income of less than £30,000 a year?
  • Does your home have less than 200mm of roof insulation and/or cavity walls that have not been filled?
  • If you know the EPC rating of your home, is it D or less? To find out whether your property has a valid EPC visit www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate

If you are a private tenant or landlord, provided that all of the other above conditions are met, you can still apply to have the work done, however, the grant will only cover 2/3rds of the cost, with the remaining 1/3rd needing to be paid by the landlord. The exact costs for the work can only be confirmed via having a survey but the likely cost payable will be in the region of £250-£400.

Our partner, Marches Energy Agency, is administrating the scheme for us and will help deal with any enquiries. If you answered 'yes' to the previous questions and believe you are eligible, then please contact them, either by:

Frequently asked questions

If you agree to the work, depending on the condition and style of your home then loft and/or cavity insulation will be fitted to your home. This should help to increase the energy efficiency of the building, prevent heat loss and help counter the cost of increasing energy price rises.

There will be some minor disruption to daily life, as contractors will need to survey your home and fit the relevant energy efficiency measures. However, fitting loft and cavity insulation is a relatively quick process and if you are found eligible for a grant, work should be completed fairly quickly once started.

Once your home has been surveyed and we have confirmed that you are eligible for a grant, there is a formal process with which the installation has to comply to, and which is set out within our funding requirements. This happens in the background and does not require any input from you to complete, however, this can take several weeks to process, and must be done before the work can commence. Once started though, the work should take at most a couple of days to complete.

Nothing will happen if you refuse to have work undertaken. You are under no obligation to agree to the works proposed. However, funding is limited and not available indefinitely. If you apply but decide not to have the work undertaken we may not be able to offer a similar project in the future.

This work will help to improve the warmth and comfort of your home, as well as help to limit increasing energy bills. This project was designed with you in mind and Amber Valley Borough Council is committed to making homes more comfortable and countering increasing energy prices.

No, you do not need to apply for planning permission.

A Trustmark registered installer, Westville, will undertake the work. They will be overseen by the council and their work will be conducted to the latest PAS2035:2019 standard.

Amber Valley Borough Council is contractually required to provide ongoing due diligence, monitoring, reporting and controlling relating to all work undertaken in relation to the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme.
