A 'call for sites' exercise was undertaken by the borough council earlier this year, as part of the process of establishing a Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) and to subsequently make sufficient provision in the new Local Plan for new housing and economic development to meet identified needs over the next 15-20 years.
The 'call for sites' exercise has resulted in the submission of a number of potential sites, which will need to be subject to a robust process of assessment, in order to establish a SHELAA and before any conclusions can be reached as to which sites should be identified in the new Local Plan.
For information, details of the 'call for sites' submissions can be viewed via the following link:
Parts of the submission documents have been redacted to remove personal or other sensitive data, including having regard to the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018, as well as to take into account matters of commercial confidentiality.
The site assessment process will be informed by a range of comments from a number of technical consultees. These comments will play a key role in identifying any constraints to development, including by indicating whether such constraints could be addressed and if so, what mitigation or other measures may be required, as well as identifying any opportunities to contribute to a more sustainable pattern of development, including improvements to the local economy, improvements to physical and/or social infrastructure and the protection and/or enhancement of the environment. The technical consultees were notified of the 'call for sites' submissions on 7 July 2020. Given the extensive number of potential sites that have been submitted, the technical consultees have been asked to provide any comments by no later than 9 October 2020.
It is important to emphasise that at this stage in the process, no conclusions have been, or indeed can be reached, in order to establish a SHELAA, or to decide which sites should be identified for development in the new Local Plan. The borough council is therefore not inviting any public representations on the 'call for sites' submissions and will not be responding to any such representations that may be received.
Please note that the Borough Council are no longer accepting sites submitted through the ‘call for sites’ process as this has now closed. If you wish to submit a site(s) for consideration you can do so through the Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) process at any time, however it cannot be guaranteed that it will be considered as part of the Local Plan process. Further details on the SHELAA can be found here.
