Appointment of independent planning inspector

The Secretary of State has appointed independent planning inspector, Karen Baker DipTP MA DipMP MRTPI, to conduct an examination to consider the "soundness" of the Local Plan.

Examination

The independent planning inspector will check that all legal and other requirements have been met. The inspector will take into account the submission documents and evidence base and will also consider the representations received following the publication of the Pre-Submission Local Plan in November 2017.

Part of the examination process involved hearing sessions, where those invited to participate by the inspector had the opportunity to respond to matters raised. The hearing sessions were open to the public to attend, but only those invited to participate in the hearings were able to speak.

The examination hearings opened at 10am on Tuesday 12 June 2018, and were held in the council chamber at Ripley town hall. The hearings ran over 4 weeks until the 10 July.

  • Week 1: Tuesday 12 - Friday 15 June 2018
  • Week 2: Tuesday 25 - Friday 29 June 2018
  • Week 3: Thursday 5 July 2018
  • Week 4: Tuesday 10 July 2018 (contingency session)

Morning sessions started at 10am and afternoon sessions started at 2pm. All sessions were open to the public to observe, although only registered participants could speak.

Programme officer

The examination process will be administered by the appointed programme officer, Carmel Edwards of CP Solutions Ltd. Ms Edwards is independent from the borough council and works directly to the inspector.
