Amber Valley Borough Council is working to make the town centres of Alfreton, Belper, Heanor, and Ripley better places to live, work, and visit. We’re doing this through a Town Centre Benchmarking project, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The project is being carried out by People and Places Insight, a company with experience in over 350 towns across the UK.
Town Centre Benchmarking helps us understand how well our town centres are doing. It looks at things like:
This information will help us plan improvements, attract funding, and support local businesses.
We’re now asking residents, visitors, and businesses to share their views. Your feedback will help shape the future of our town centres.
If you live in, work in, or regularly visit any of the four town centres, please take a few minutes to complete a short survey. You can do this online or pick up a paper copy from your local Council office.
Choose the town(s) that apply to you:
People and Places Insight will be visiting businesses in each town to hand out surveys. These ask about trading conditions, business confidence, and views on the town centre.
If you haven’t received a survey and would like one, please contact:

All responses will be used to create a detailed report for each town. This will help guide future improvements and ensure the town centres meet the needs of everyone who uses them.
Thank you for helping us build better town centres for Amber Valley.
