Working for Amber Valley Borough Council

We offer employees a generous package of benefits which include:

Pensions

When you start work for the council you will automatically be enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) from the first day of employment. For more information on the pension scheme please visit www.derbyshirepensionfund.org.uk.

The council is a living wage employer, which means that all employees receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.00. Please see our current pay policy and salary scales.

Annual leave

Employees receive a minimum of 23 days annual leave per year, which increases to 31 days after 5 years’ service. In addition, there are 8 public holidays. Leave is calculated on a pro-rata basis for employees working less than 37 hours per week.

The council offices close over the Christmas period without the need to book leave.

Flexible working

We have a range of flexible working options including flexi time, part-time and job share working to help achieve work-life balance.

Maternity, adoption, paternity, parental and shared parental leave policies

We offer a comprehensive package of support in relation to these.

Employee assistance

The council is a supportive employer, having a range of services in place to support employees if needed; these include occupational health services, eye tests for all employees in partnership with Specsavers, as well as a confidential counselling service which is carried out by a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist.

Learning and development

Your employment will commence with a period of induction, and various on-line courses. To ensure continuous professional development we provide supervision and training as appropriate.

Health and well being

Healthy Business Cards (also known as the Amber Card) are for use within Places for People leisure centres at Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor. Not only is this benefit available to employees, it is also available to family members.

The Healthy Business Card offers fantastic savings at leisure facilities providing activities for all ages, abilities and interests.

The council currently funds the administration cost for employees to join the Healthy Business Card Scheme and employees are able to purchase a card for themselves and an individual card for each family member as applicable.

Free parking

The council provides free parking for all employees.
