Amber Valley Shop Front Improvement Grant

Are you a business in Amber Valley looking to improve your shop front?

The Amber Valley Shop Front Improvement Grant is now open for applications and will remain open until Friday 19th December 2025, or until all funds are allocated. Applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, so early submission is strongly encouraged.

Eligibility criteria

  • To apply, your business must meet the following criteria:
  • Be located within Amber Valley.
  • Be a Small or Medium Enterprise (SME).
  • The project must involve improvements to a ground floor shop frontage visible from a main road. (Upper floors may be included if they are used for business purposes.)
  • The maximum grant available is £500.
  • 50% match funding is required — for example, if your total project cost is £500, you may apply for up to £250.

Note: Funding cannot be awarded retrospectively.

After submitting your form, you’ll receive a confirmation email. The Council will then request the following supporting documents, which must be provided before your application can be accepted:

2. Written quotes

  • For work under £250: 1 quote required.
  • For work between £250 and £1,000: 2 quotes required.
  • Quotes must be comparable and clearly detail the same scope of work, materials, and specifications.

If your project includes multiple types of work (e.g. painting and signage), each must be quoted separately.

2. Witten landlord consent (if applicable)

  • Must be a formal, signed document (not email or text).
  • A scanned copy or image of the signed consent is acceptable.

3. Photo of current shop front

  • Must show the full frontage, including signage, windows, and entrance.

4. Technical drawing or Image of proposed improvements

  • Should include accurate measurements, materials, colours, signage details (including font and placement), and a full visual of the intended outcome.

5. Planning permissions (if applicable)

  • You are responsible for checking if planning permission or advertisement consent is needed.
  • If required, include the planning reference number and relevant details.

6. Signed MFA Declaration Form

  • Download the MFA Form (PDF)
  • This confirms compliance with subsidy control regulations.

What Happens Next?

Applications are reviewed by a Grant Panel. If approved, the work must be completed within:

  • Eight weeks of the approval date, or
  • By the end of March 2026 (whichever comes first).
