Freemen of the borough awards

Freeman of the Borough is a rare honorary title awarded specifically to former councillors in recognition of their exceptional and lasting service to local government and the people of Amber Valley. The council has six Freemen of the Borough:

Mr Jim Briggs MBE - posthumously 4 October 1990
Mrs M H Alice Emmas-Williams - 4 October 1990
Mr Vic Barber - 28 April 1999
Mr Maurice B Gent - 12 July 2000
Mr Alan Stringer - 1 October 2003
Mr John McCabe - 24 September 2025
