Alison:
I work as an Exchequer Officer at Amber Valley Borough Council and my role includes processing payroll and dealing with Creditors and Debtors. I started at the Council as a "Right Trak" trainee and progressed to a permanent position within the same department. Whilst working at the Council I have been given the opportunity and the support to work towards a professional qualification in AAT. In addition I have recently started a Level 3 Team Leader qualification which the Council is funding which will help me progress both personally and professionally. Working at Amber Valley Borough Council has been so rewarding and working with friendly and helpful colleagues makes it a great place to work.
Molly:
Working as a Community Support Officer is a busy role that involves managing a variety of issues, from pest control to waste management via phone calls and emails, we come across many different residents and businesses who require our help or guidance. Only working for the council for just over a year I have built a strong relationship with my colleagues and other members throughout the building, everyone is friendly and helpful. I enjoy working for the council helping to make a positive impact in our community. Within my first year I have been able to train and qualify to be a First aider for the council and am awaiting training to become a mental health first aider which enables me to help others work related or not.
Hannah:
I've had the privilege of working at Amber Valley Borough Council for nearly 15 years, and I’ve had the chance to grow my skills and take on new challenges, which has been incredibly fulfilling. I was initially drawn to this role because it allowed me to contribute directly to the community where I grew up. Working for my local council has given me a strong sense of pride and commitment to making a positive impact on the place I call home. I’m passionate about the work we do, and seeing the tangible results of our efforts within the community is very rewarding.
Dan:
My main duties in my role as a Fleet Officer include maintaining all the Council’s fleet and plant machinery, keeping records of maintenance and repair works, organising service agreements, adhering to the O’Licence agreements, toolbox and driver handbook talks with operatives so they are safe and compliant with road safety. After starting at Amber Valley Council in 2012 working as a Domestic Operative, I noticed a job for an Apprentice Landscape Operative on a notice board that really interested me after studying Horticulture at Broomfield College. After a successful interview I started my journey in the Landscape Services department which included being appointed to a permanent role, overseeing another successful apprentice, progressing to a Street Cleansing Chargehand role and then being promoted to a Fleet Officer role which I am really enjoying. I have recently undertaken a Level 3 International Transport Managers course that I have passed! I am currently studying for a Level 3 Team Leader qualification. I think working for the Council is a great way of progressing in life, gaining skills and knowledge.
Louise:
I’m the Benefits Training and Support Team Leader. I’ve been with the authority for many years, starting in an admin role and then progressing as I’ve gained knowledge and experience through Benefits and Revenues to my current position. My role involves quality checking the Benefits assessment work, advising on the more complicated claims we may have, keeping the Benefits team updated on changes and refresher training on procedures and regulations along with other duties. I find the work interesting and varied. I’ve always found AVBC to be good as an employer as we have flexi time and now have hybrid working. They’ve been supportive of me through changes in my life such as having a family and other issues I’ve faced during my time with them. I’ve been here since 1989 and haven’t left since!
Claire:
The Administration team is a close team who support each other, and the other members of the planning team. The role involves ensuring a high standard of customer service is maintained by the administration team, and to prioritise workload to ensure that all administrative duties are fulfilled to the best of the team’s abilities whilst providing support to the Administrators and Planning Officers. Duties include validating planning applications to the National Validation requirements, taking telephone calls from members of the public, Councillors, applicants and agents, ensuring that planning applications and enforcement cases are logged, and all consultation responses, objections / representations and enquires are processed and passed to the planning officers as efficiently and as quickly as possible. Working at the Council for a number of years, I have found colleagues to be friendly and supportive of the Administration team and enjoy working together to achieve the best service we can provide.
