Amber Valley Borough Council expands successful trainee scheme with two new roles

Two new trainee opportunities are being launched at Amber Valley Borough Council, giving local people the chance to earn while they learn and secure a permanent career in local government.

The Council’s trainee scheme, which began in 2024, offers hands-on experience, fully funded qualifications and a clear route into long-term employment. It has already helped people start their careers in specialist areas such as tree management and legal services.

Now, two more full-time roles are being advertised: a Trainee Regulation Technician in Food and Health and Safety, and a Trainee IT Service Support Officer.

The roles will play a vital part in the Council’s work – from protecting the health and safety of residents and local businesses, to keeping essential IT systems running so services remain accessible every day.

Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams, Leader of the Council, said: “Our trainee scheme has been a real success, opening the door for people to gain qualifications and experience while earning a salary.

"We are committed to developing our workforce and investing in people so that we can continue to provide high-quality services for residents.

"These new positions are about more than jobs. They are about protecting the health and wellbeing of our communities and ensuring the services people rely on every day are properly supported.

"We are proud to be opening the door to another two trainees who will join a supportive and professional environment where they can learn, grow and make a real difference."

Both roles are full time at 37 hours per week, starting at Grade 4 with a salary of £26,824 to £28,598 per year. Trainees are guaranteed a permanent role on successful completion of their training and qualifications, with salaries increasing either by career-graded progression or on appointment to the permanent post.

The closing date for the Trainee Regulation Technician is 10 October, while applications for the Trainee IT Service Support Officer close on 13 October.

With closing dates approaching, anyone interested is encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Full details of each role and how to apply can be found on the Amber Valley Borough Council website at www.ambervalley.gov.uk/jobs.
