Community Safety Action Day returns to Belper

Amber Valley Borough Council is stepping up its commitment to community safety with another Crime Prevention Action Day, aimed at helping residents protect themselves, their homes, and their belongings. With a strong focus on burglary prevention, theft awareness, road safety, and personal security, this event will offer practical advice and hands-on support to everyone who attends.

The upcoming event will take place on Tuesday 18 February 2025, from 12pm to 4pm on King Street, Belper. Derbyshire Constabulary and Futures Housing will be on hand to provide expert guidance, answer questions, and demonstrate crime prevention strategies.

Attendees will also have access to a variety of free safety equipment and devices, designed to help make homes and personal property more secure. The team will be available throughout the afternoon to demonstrate how to set up and use these tools effectively, ensuring residents feel confident in taking steps to boost their security.

Residents are encouraged to come along, share concerns, and ask questions about crime prevention in their area. Community feedback is a crucial part of shaping future safety initiatives, and past events have already led to meaningful changes.

Following the success of our last Action Day in March 2024, which saw a fantastic turnout, we have acted on public feedback by improving street lighting in Alfreton Recreation Ground - a key concern raised by local residents. This is just one example of how these events directly influence safety improvements across Amber Valley.

Councillor Elaine Sherman, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: "Keeping our communities safe is a priority for us all, and by working in collaboration with Derbyshire Police and Futures Housing, we can provide residents with the right tools, advice, and support to help prevent crime. This event is a great chance to pick up free safety equipment, chat with the experts, and find out simple ways to protect your home and belongings. I’d really encourage everyone to come along and get involved - whether you’ve got specific concerns or just want to learn more about staying safe."

Amber Valley Borough Council remains dedicated to making our communities safer, and this Crime Prevention Action Day is part of a broader strategy to deliver more events like this across the borough.
