Multi-site play area consultation

Play Area consultation -  March 2026

Fantastic news! The designs for new play areas at Aldercar Recreation Ground and Waingroves Recreation Ground are now in.

Following the public consultation that took place a few months ago, we have recently invited qualified playground suppliers to provide new, modern and inclusive designs and we’re now able to share 3 exciting proposals for each site.

Play Areas and Recreation Grounds are not only a source of fun and a great place to meet and play with friends and family, but they also serve as vital spaces for children to stay active, healthy, and socially engaged.

We would love the support of the local community to help choose the winning supplier to bring these projects forward - Please note, your vote counts for both sites, as one supplier will be awarded both projects. Once the supplier is chosen, we’re aiming for the new play areas and accompanying features to be completed in time for the summer holidays.

Here’s a list of desirable features identified during the previous consultation, which were shared with the suppliers to incorporate within their scheme.

Aldercar Recreation Ground:

  1. Multi use climbing frame
  2. Like for like climbing arch to replace existing
  3. Swings (to provide flat seat, 2 cradle seats and an inclusive seat).
  4. Slides – (small and large)
  5. Aerial runway
  6. Basket swing(s) (small and large would also be ideal)
  7. Trim trail/balancing items
  8. Playhouse
  9. Play-sensory panels
  10. Rocking - Seesaw/springy items (Minimum of 2 items)
  11. Trampolines
  12. Rotating – wheelchair accessible roundabout is preferable.

The majority of people also said that fencing on this site was essential. Also requested was extra seating and a picnic table. We asked suppliers to retain the existing spinner bowl and overhead rotator as these items still have plenty of life left in them. Separately to the refurbishment of the play area, we will also be looking to make environment improvements, remove graffiti, improve cleanliness and provide replacement football goals.

Waingroves Road Recreation Ground

  1. Multi use climbing frame
  2. Swings (to provide flats, cradles and an inclusive seat)
  3. Slide(s)
  4. Aerial runway
  5. Basket swing
  6. Balancing/trim trail
  7. Playhouse
  8. Play/Sensory panels
  9. Rocking – existing seesaw to remain. New springy required.
  10. Rotating item/s
  11. Supply and install 5 pieces of fitness equipment, 25m away from the play area to cover upper and lower body workouts e.g. rower, cross trainer, hand bike/tai chi discs etc.

The majority of people did not feel that fencing was essential and would prefer to see funds used to provide more equipment. Also requested was extra seating, a picnic table, replacement football goals and outdoor fitness equipment. We asked suppliers to retain the existing see-saw which was only recently installed.
