Since the introduction of national non domestic rates in 1990 Amber Valley’s business rates collection rate has consistently placed us in the upper quartile for English authorities.
A decade ago in 2004/05 we collected 99.2 % of 2004/05 bills in year. In 2005/06, we collected 99.5% of 2005/06 bills in year, placing us equal 41st nationally, our best performance at that time. In 2006/07 we maintained our excellent collection rate of 99.5%, placing us equal 38th nationally. In 2007/08 we collected 99.4 % of business rates in year, we were equal 68th nationally. In 2008/09 we collected 98.6% of business rates in year, we were equal 105th nationally.
In 2009/10 we collected 99.0% of business rates in year, we were equal 47th nationally, and again higher than any other Derbyshire authority. In 2010/11 we collected 98.9%. Whilst this was a fall of 0.1% it was still the highest in Derbyshire and equal 69th nationally.
In 2011/12 we collected 99.1% of business rates in year, we were equal 30th nationally.
In 2012/13 collection fell slightly by 0.1% to 99.0% and whilst this was a decrease of 0.1% against 2011/12 we were equal 38th nationally and still substantially higher than the national average.
In 2013/14 we maintained our excellent collection rate and again collected 99.0% of Business Rates in year, equal 39th nationally, still substantially higher than the national average and the highest in Derbyshire.
In 2014/15 we collected 98.9% in year, placing us 63rd nationally.
Last year (2015/16) we collected 99.0% in year, this placed us 64th nationally.
The national average in-year collection rate for non-domestic rates in England was 98.2 % in 2015/16, an increase of 0.1 percentage points over 2014/15 (98.1%).
Overall business rate collection, covering over 20 years is around 99.5%. This financial year alone we will again collect around £31 million in non-domestic rates from 3,700 business ratepayers. View national collection rates.
