What we know so far

More information on the energy payment for households in Council Tax bands A to D will be shared when available.

We are aware of the Government's announcement that households in England living in properties in Council Tax bands A to D will receive a £100 energy payment to help with energy bills this winter.

We are awaiting further information from the Government about how the scheme will operate and will provide updates to residents as soon as full details become available.

If you're not sure which Council Tax band your home is in, you can find it in the top section of your Council Tax bill next to 'Property Band', or you can check online using the GOV.UK Council Tax band checker.

Important notice:

This is not a Council Tax payment. Rather, it is a £100 payment for which Council Tax banding will be used solely as the eligibility mechanism.

Payments will be issued as soon as practicable from January 2027 onwards, subject to applicants meeting the eligibility criteria.

The Government announced the scheme in the Budget on 28 October 2026 without prior consultation with, or advance notice to, local authorities. As a result, councils must first establish the necessary administrative arrangements, systems, and resources to ensure the scheme can be delivered effectively and accurately before payments can commence.

Please note: This page will be updated as new information becomes available.
