Appealing a licensing decision

License holders and applicants have means to appeal a licence decision

See the Licence for keeping a primate page for information about how to appeal a licensing decision.

If you disagree with your star rating or with a licensing decision made by the local authority, you have the right to appeal. Before submitting an appeal, you are encouraged to speak with the inspecting officer, who can explain how your rating or decision was determined.

The form below can be used to appeal either:

  • your star rating under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, or
  • a licensing decision under the Animal Welfare (Primate Licences) (England) Regulations 2024.

Please read the information below before you begin your appeal.
