Lost dogs

The dog control helpline is open from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 4:30pm on Wednesday.

What to do if you have lost your dog between these hours

Ring the dog control helpline on 01773 841335 to speak to a member of staff who will ask you for the following information:

  • Your name and address
  • Contact telephone number
  • Description of your dog
  • If it is wearing identification or is identichipped
  • Where and when you lost your dog

What to do if you have lost your dog outside these hours

Ring the dog control helpline on 01773 841335. You will be given the option to transfer to the emergency duty officer who will advise you accordingly.

If you would like to ring the emergency duty officer direct, you can dial 01773 841414.

If we find your dog we will contact you as soon as possible to arrange for its return. The authority has a legal obligation to kennel a dog for 7 days and it will then be eligible for rehoming.

Amber Valley enforce legislation in relation to dog control:

  • The Environmental Protection Act 1990 makes it an offence for a dog to freely roam the streets without wearing a collar and disc stating the owners name and address. A fine of up to £5000 can be incurred.
  • The Microchipping of Dogs Regulations 2015 makes it a legal requirement for a dog to be microchipped and the owners details registered with an approved microchip database. Fines of up to £2000 can be incurred.

If you find your dog please let us know as soon as possible so that it can be removed from our records.

Found dogs

Ring the dog control helpline on 01773 841335 to speak to a member of staff who will ask you for the following information:

  • Your name and address
  • Contact telephone number
  • Description of the dog
  • If it is wearing identification or is identichipped
  • Where and when you found the dog

The dog officer will be contacted to collect the dog from you as soon as possible.
